1 package of pasta (preferably elbow macaroni or small shells)
2 cups grated Valio Edam & Gouda cheese
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter

250–300g shrimp (peeled, fresh or frozen)
1 tbsp olive oil or butter
1 garlic clove (optional, finely chopped)
A little lemon juice (optional)
Guide
1 Boil the pasta in salted water according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
2 Make the Cheese Sauce (Roux Method).In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
3 Add the flour and stir well for 1 minute to cook it slightly.
4 Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
5 Continue stirring until the sauce thickens (about 2–3 minutes).
6 Add the grated cheese and stir until fully melted and smooth.
7 Season with salt, pepper, and any optional ingredients like mustard or nutmeg.
8 Mix the pasta with the cheese sauce in the pot or transfer to a baking dish to serve.
Extra Touch: Mac & Cheese with Shrimp
9 Sauté the Shrimp
- Heat the olive oil or butter in a pan.
- Add the garlic (if using) and the shrimp.
- Sauté for 2–3 minutes on each side, until golden and pink.
- Optionally, squeeze a bit of lemon juice for extra aroma.
10 Continue with the Basic Mac & Cheese Recipe
- Prepare the cheese sauce and combine it with the pasta as described in the original recipe.
- At the end, add the shrimp to the cheese sauce or mix them directly with the pasta.
11 Bake for Extra Flavor
- Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 10–15 minutes, until lightly golden on top and the flavors meld together.
